A Way To Go…

On a recent Monday this February, I got off my lazy ass and finally forced myself to do push-ups, sit-ups, and pull-ups. My diagnostic could only be described as scary.

I haven’t done a proper work out in over 6 weeks.

How did I do that day?

  1. 64 push-ups in two minutes
  2. 54 sit-ups in two minutes
  3. 10 pull-ups in two minutes (the pull-up bar fell down half-way through, but I could still do ten)

Not so good. The good news is that I’ve nearly reached my first set of fitness-goals before. I’ve done 100 push-ups in two minutes before. I’ve done 80 sit-ups in two minutes before. I’ve done 16 pull-ups in two minutes before. And I can do them again.

Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, I will do push-ups, pull-ups, and sit-ups. The weekend days are my rest days.

I’ve got no excuse but to go forward now.

    • Was sore for three-four days afterwards. I will continue with my schedule on Monday, as common wisdom is not workout when sore (unless I have to).

As I workout more, my recovery time will decrease back to normal levels. I was surprised that I retained 64% of my push-up capabilty. If I can get up to 300 push-ups in 6 minutes, 64% would be 192 push-ups.

      • So your 100% is 281,25 reps (with online calculator)? WOw thats amazing man! But are you just doing regular push-ups or progressing to some other harder variations?, maybe weighted? The same with your other bodyweight excercises.

How much time did it take you to reach 100% at 281,25 push-up reps? What were you doing before that you’re trying to recover to?

Yeah, I understand, on the 7th day he rested so his muscles grow bigger.

        • I have not yet gotten up to 300 push ups in two minutes.

My goal is to get up to 300 push ups in 6 minutes.

The most I have done was 100 push ups in 2 minutes. I do regular push ups as pre-scribed by my army instructors.

It took me roughly a year to get 100 push-ups in two minutes, because I had not had consistent exercise practices. I believe it can be done in three-six months if one has a consistent work out schedule. Becuase I have done it once before, I know I can do it again and will get back up to it faster.

            • I challenge you to work your way up to 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, and 20 pull-ups, each event in 2 minutes.

I challenge you to run a mile in 6.30 minutes.

My workouts are thusly: Monday, Wednesday, Friday – I do max push ups, wait four minutes, max sit-ups, wait four minutes, and then max pull-ups. Every week, I try to add 10% of my previous max to the work out. For example, week one I do 60 push-ups, 60 sit-ups, and 10 pull-ups. The next week my goal would be 66 push-ups, 66 sit-ups, and 11 pull-ups.

Tuesdays and Thursdays I would do sprints and running.

I would do a combination of sprints and a jog/run.

Do 5 or so 20/30 meter sprints. Then do a 2-3 mile run. Every week you could increase the number of sprints, the distance of sprints, and if you have the time, the distance of the runs (although I would focus on the sprints).

That is my basic schedule, though I do not profess to have any real expertise.

My biggest piece of advice is to exercise consistently, whatever you do. Consistency is key.

As for joining the army, I would say to try and get on-board with ROTC, if you are not done with college they may still award you wish a scholarship and monthly pay check.

My only caveat, is only join the army if you really, really want to know and think you know what you’re doing. As an officer, they sign you up for 8 years. That is 4 years active duty and 4 years reserve. Eight years is no joke man. If I wasn’t joining the army, I’d probably never have returned to the U.S..

            • CHALLENGE ACCEPTED: 100 SIT UPS/PUSH-UPS in 2″, 20 Pull Ups in 2″ and run a mile (1,605 km) in 6″.

This is going to be a though challenge. Now I can only max 35-50 push ups (180º), 100 situps (easier, yet I prefer hanging leg raises and L-Holds) and 15 pull-ups. Running will be the most challenging.

What’s the deadline and how can I prove my progress to you?

            • How much time do you have? Do you have three months? Do you have six months?

My schedule for myself is vague because my living arrangements will change a lot this year until end of summer, with lots of travel.

It is hard to prove to me your progress if I can’t see you do the push-ups, sit-ups, or watch you run. What you can do, is write me weekly at my email, your results. That is, you record your results everyday, compile them at the end of the week and send them to me. If you do not send the results to me one week or miss your workout, email me why. If you do this enough, the habit of it, should keep you honest.

When I was in highschool, I always spoke of my grades to my parents because I just about always did well. I even reported bad grades to my parents. When I was in my first year of university, I spoke of my grades less. Mostly because university was harder compared to highschool and I could not get away with being as lazy as I could have in highschool. I spoke of my grades less to my parents though I’m sure they knew why.

            • As I grow older and older in University I talk less to my folks, less about my live and less about my just-enough-to-get-by-grades. You know: Law School.

My schedule has been hard in this last two weeks because of team workshops I have to do. Now I’m going out to meet with some people I don’t like much to finish and long ass assingment.

Despite this. I will post my progress to you daily, both on your comments and as a post in my blog. Starting tomorrow monday Feb. 25th

            • That’s the other part of that of course – but I was making the point that if I have you update me every week, then I will notice if you fail to update me one week. The fact that you have to update me every week is less about you being honest to me and more about you being honest to yourself.

I hope you accomplish the challenge. But it does not affect me if you complete the challenge. You should not do it for me either. You should do it for you.

If you are not sure of time constraints, I will give you three months.

Also, please change my name on your blog post.

Walderschmidt – not Walder Schmitt. Or Wald, for short.

So to conclude – you have until Saturday, May 25th, 2013 to complete this challenge.

          • I publcly state it here: On sunday 24th febrary I accepted Walderschmidt’s challenge.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED: 100 SIT UPS/PUSH-UPS in 2″, 20 Pull Ups in 2″ and run a mile (1,605 km) in 6″.

91 Days — or — 13 Weeks and 0 Days have passed since February 24th, 2013 the beggining of Wald’s Challenge.

If today was the day of the test, in the same way as yesterday was the day of my final exam, I know I would fail in the same way as I failed one of my final exams: for not being prepared.

It’s not like I’ve failed all my exams, but right now I feel as It that has been the case. I don’t want this to be misinterpreted as if I’m saying: “I didn’t do so bad”. No. A feeling of nehh fills me even though I get 4’s out of 5’s. No.

When I was on my first semester, the first days of what you call “freshman year”, I would surprise, take as a surprise and think of myself as a mediocre when in my first tests and workshops I got a 3,7 or even a 4 out of 5 (on the A to F grading system that would be a C+ and a B). “That’s a good grade”. “It’s very difficult to get 5’s here”. “Get accustomed to that”, some would say, the same who are now conformed to be with chubby girls and with a future cubicle job in a Buffete or in a public office passing their days remembering the birthdays of other sheeple and waiting for the pension, for the day the can finally get up and live.

Now I don’t care with winning, just passing by getting enough grades with the minimum effort to pass the subject, the semester and get out of college. The only girls that don’t flake on me right now are the girls I talked as a second option after I was rejected by th hottie or even worse, when I didn’t talk to her before she get out of the transmilenio.

Soul dying a little more day after day.

When I got 2,6/5 on the evidence law final exam with the so called female version of Prof. Kingsfield, I knew in advance I would lose it. I pictured it in my head not out of anxiety but of a suicidal acceptance of a destiny I had forsee and prepared. Digging my own grave I just continued doing the same shit I’ve been doing for a long time ago. With all the time I had before the exam I could have prepared myself, trained and read all I haven’t for the subject to even get a better grade, but finally I didn’t. Now I know jack shit. I just sat, stared at the screen and procrastinated my life to failure.

I could have woken up early, done my pushups, pull-ups, squats for the challenge, yesterday’s deadline. Now I’m the same skninny bitch of february. I just sat, stared at the screen and procrastinated my life to failure.

I didn’t do this with female kingsfield as I usuallly don’t do this when I lose an exam, I’m not of those who beg for a better grade when he knows not just by the grade but by his lack of discipline that he deserves it, but i’m going to make an exception with you Wald, I’m going to ask you not a better grade but for a new deadline:

I ask you for one month ( 31 Days — or — 4 Weeks and 3 Days) starting yesterday to 25th june to complete the challenge that I left unfinished due to my shameful lack of discipline.
