I don’t have any German friends, but I made many friends from Eastern Europe when I worked at a hotel when I was younger. The hotel brought a couple dozen of them over to work every summer for tourist season.
I still get emails telling me I need to come visit, always along the lines of: “When are you visiting, friend? I promise you, get here and you are good.”
Tour ship… Extra Americans in town?
Maybe. I was visiting German friends and stayed in their barracks, so I did not meet any Americans when I was there.
I will say this – Germans are some of the best friends you can have.

Which part of Eastern Europe?
With the current string of events in the US and the possible trajectory of future ones, you may find it prudent to take them up on their offers.
Hungary, Poland, Serbia, and Bulgaria. I hear from the Bulgarians and the Poles the most.
